Château Malescot Saint Exupéry

MARGAUX

Description

This chateau's wonderfully evocative name recalls Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's dream-like story, the Little Prince. It's no coincidence, either: the author's great-grandfather gave the prestigious chateau its name when he took ownership in 1827.

It's impossible not to think about the chateau's history as you walk up the path that leads to the spectacular building at the centre of the estate.

Simon Malescot, a prosecutor at Bordeaux's erstwhile Parlement, gave the chateau its first patronymic in 1697. Later, Fourcade and Boissac ordered the construction of the sumptuous building that stands proudly at its centre, as well as the modern cellar buildings that have provided inspiration for a great number of chateaus elsewhere in the region.
